of RICHARD BAUER

RICHARD
BAUER is currently principal viola with the Portland Chamber Orchestra.
He
was the principal violist with the Portland Opera Orchestra for eleven years
and has also played professionally with the Spokane and Columbus Symphony Orchestras
and the Oregon Festival of American Music orchestra.
Mr.
Bauer is Director of Orchestras at South Salem High School. He started his teaching
career in Pendleton and has taught in Salem for seventeen years. The program
at South Salem has grown from a low of nine string players in his first years
there to its current ninety, in three levels of string orchestras and the South
Salem Symphony. The South High Chamber Orchestra is the current OSAA Champion
string orchestra, a title it has held for two of the past three years. They
have recently returned from a very successful performance at The Midwest Clinic
in Chicago. Next spring the South High orchestras are looking forward to their
fourth concert tour in Europe in the past eleven years.
Mr.
Bauer has conducted honor groups and adjudicated throughout the Northwest. Each
summer he is a faculty member at a number of Suzuki String Institutes, including,
for 2004, the Oregon Suzuki Institute at Pacific University and the Advanced
Suzuki Institute at Stanford. He was named Oregon Music Educator of the Year
by the Oregon Symphony in 2000 and is a past president of the Oregon String
Teacher's Association. Richard Bauer's undergraduate training was from the University
of Idaho and he received his Master's Degree in viola performance from The Ohio
State University.
