BEETHOVEN UNLIMITED --- Egmont
Music Reviewer James McQuillen of the Oregonian says this about PCO:
" Saturday's opening performance was excellent, a fine example of the
improvements the orchestra has made under director Yaacov Bergman, who has
led the Portland Chamber Orchestra since 2002. Contributions from all sections
were solid and assured, and intonation throughout was on the mark. Abetted
by Kaul's lively acoustic, the strings sounded lush and full ... .Bergman
conducted with fervor, playing the dramatic possibilities of the music to
the hilt ... "Christy Anne Hamilton lent youthful conviction and an
agile, focused voice to her two arias as Clara, the doomed hero's beloved."
Music
Reviewer James McQuillen of the Oregonian goes on to say:
"The second piece on the program was the Beethoven Violin Concerto, with
soloist Chin Kim. Kim's performance was dazzling; his cadenzas recalled Paganini
in their use of the tricks of the fiddler's toolbox."
