Forrest Pierce - Composer, Great River of the West
Dr. Forrest Pierce is composer-in-residence of the Seattle New Music Ensemble, former assistant professor of music at Lewis & Clark College, and associate professor of composition at Kansas University.A student of Don Freund, Stephen Paulus and Dominick Argento, Pierce he earned degrees from the University of Puget Sound summa cum laude, the University of Minnesota, and Indiana University, where he received the dean's prize in composition.
Pierce has composed over one hundred works for soloists and ensembles representing orchestral, vocal, choral, and operatic forces. His works has been performed by the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, the choir of Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, the Brave New Works Core Ensemble, the Northwest Repertory Singers, the Oregon Repertory Singers, the Indiana University New Music Ensemble, the Seattle New Music Ensemble, and distinguished soloists in North America and abroad.
Pierce's family hails
from Walla Walla on his mother's side, and from Yelm on his father's. Raised
in Pullman, within sight of the Rockies, Pierce wrote the Great River concerto
for Mark Goodenberger, a native of
Astoria.
