WHAT IS A CHAMBER ORCHESTRA?

The Chamber Orchestra, sometimes referred to as the Chamber Symphony, is a small orchestra whose size is dependent upon repertoire, period and style.

Before 1800 most orchestras were of this smaller size, and, happily, contemporary composers have once again become inspired to write for such ensembles.

The Chamber Orchestra offers musicians and audiences the opportunity to experience a more intimate orchestral setting for music-making. The smaller orchestral ensemble is able to program jewels of the repertoire that are inappropriate for the larger symphonic body, giving the listening public the chance to hear exquisite musical works that are less frequently performed.
